Everything is lined up for a Belgian showdown
Several of the big pairs seem to be on fire ahead of today's semi-finals of the Premier Padels Brussels P2, which has already offered several highlights
Several surprises, some very high quality matches and some real drama. The first Premier padel on European soil this season has lived up to expectations so far, so there is every reason to look forward to this weekend's decisive matches.
Women's heavy favorites SANCHEZ FALLADA/JOSEMARIA MARTIN (1) take the court for the first semi-final at 10 AM today against TRIAY PONS/ FERNANDEZ SANCHEZ (3.)
TRIAY PONS/ FERNANDEZ SANCHEZ were out in a three-setter in the quarter-finals against SAINZ PELEGRI/LLAGUNO ZIELINSKI (8), while SANCHEZ
FALLADA/JOSEMARIA MARTIN cruised through the quarter-finals 6-2,6-2 against CASTELLO LOPEZ/JENSEN SIRVENT (6).
There are no surprises in the women's second semi-final. Right by the book, it's ICARDO ALCORISA/SALAZAR BENGOECHEA (4) against BREA SENESI/ GONZALEZ FERNANDEZ (2). Both pairs have played well and steadily throughout the tournament.
GALAN has been flying in Brussels
The new pair CHINGOTTO/GALAN, seeded 3, and NIETO/SANZ (8) meet in today's first men's semi-final. The latter Spaniards impressed in Friday's quarter-final with a 2-1 victory over the farmers NAVARRO/LEBRON (2). However, the match also left the impression that the star duo NAVARRO/LEBRON must have polished their renewed collaboration. LEBRON, in particular, had a high margin of error in that game.
CHINGOTTO/GALAN, on the other hand, has found a perfect division of labor: CHINGOTTO is the worker, and GALAN is the artist. This proves that a couple with a clear division of roles can often be more potent than two stars who are baked together. GALAN has been flying in Brussels and seems comfortable in the new collaborations. They had an easy day in the quarter-finals against the unseeded GARCIA RODRIGO/SANCHEZ CHAMERO, winning 6-3,6-3.
Late-night thriller
YANGUAS/GARRIDO (5) face COELLO/TAPIA (1) in the men’s second semi-finals.
YANGUAS/GARRIDO staged a fantastic comeback in the quarterfinals against Argentine stars STUPACZUK/DI NENNO (4). After being outplayed in the first set 1-6, they returned strongly and won the following sets 6-3, 6-4.
In the semi-finals, they face first-seeded COELLO/TAPIA. They met quarterfinal surprise LAMPERTI/CRUZ BELLUATI, who were defeated in a late-night thriller 4-6, 6-3, 7-5.
