The best stay away from Bordeaux P2
The top four male pairs and the top two female pairs will not line up when the Premier Padel Bordeaux P1 begins on Monday, June 10.
The decision of the top pairs to skip the lower-scoring P2 tournament in Bordeaux is not a mere coincidence. It's a strategic move to prepare for the upcoming Italy Major, a Major tournament that holds the highest prestige among the three Premier Padel categories, and is scheduled to start on Monday, June 17.
With the absence of Coello/Tapia, Chingotto/Galán, Paquito/Lebron, and Stupa/Di Nenno, the first-seeded position in Bordeaux is now held by Bela/Tello, followed by Yanguas/Garrido in the second-seeded position.
For the women, Ari/Paula and González/Brea have dropped out of the tournament. This means that the winners of the Santiago P1 Triay-Fernández are seeded number one.
The players in Premier Padel have just been through a South American tour with three tournaments in three weeks.
How should the opt-out of Bordeaux P2 be interpreted?
The absence of the best can be interpreted in two ways:
The tournament calendar is crowded. The pressure on the best players is too great, and there are too many tournaments. Here, you can see the consequences.
The P2 tournaments are included in the new Premier Padel set up so that the best players can choose from them. This gives lower-ranked players the chance to gain points, the audience gets to see new players, and the tournaments will still offer padel at a high level.
